What is In-Home Parent Training?

When an individual’s emotional and behavior problem is not related to skill deficits, but rather performance difficulty, an IHPT model may be the most appropriate delivery of affordable and quality care.  The focus of this model is to teach parents to relate more effectively to the identified “patient.” The model assumes that the individuals problematic behaviors are established and maintained by the environment he/she resides in. By teaching parents this functional relationship model they will not only become aware of themselves as part of the environment but also they will learn to teach function-based behaviors that are effective and healthy.
